Denton Majik Dominate: A Fougere Homage to Brut Dominant
Howdy and welcome back to A Texan Shaves. This will probably be my last video until after the meetup. I’m recording this Monday night. Taking the rest of the week off. Three days to get everything together, then heading to Round Rock on Friday. Things are very busy right now, and we are in the home stretch.
I wanted to get this shave in before all of that. Specifically, I wanted to do it for Denton Majik Dominate. I could not wait for this one to drop. I’m so glad it did.
What Is Dominate?
Dominate is an homage to the discontinued Brut Dominant. I believe that was discontinued years ago. The exact timing escapes me, but the prices on eBay for old bottles like that are nuts.
Here is how Denton Majik describes it:
A bold, classic masculine fougere built around timeless barbershop strength with a sharper, more assertive edge. It opens with a bright, energetic burst of citrus and green aromatics, clean, fresh, and slightly zesty, immediately giving that traditional aftershave wake-up feel. As it develops, the heart reveals the signature Brut-style character: lavender layered with spicy nuances and a touch of herbal warmth, creating the unmistakable old-school masculine core. The dry down is where it turns deeper and more commanding. Oakmoss, woods, tonka, and musk come forward to create a dry, slightly powdery, and confidently rugged finish that lingers on the skin. Overall, Dominate is fresh but forceful, clean yet deeply masculine. Classic fougere structure with a stronger, more modern intensity. Think traditional barbershop freshness amped up into something more dominant, longer-lasting, and more assertive.
I’m on a fougere kick right now, and this is checking all the boxes.
One more thing on Denton Majik before we get into the shave. I just received their Blizzard Battles entry: CryoMajik. Created specifically for the Blizzard Battles. It’s available now, and it comes with a matching splash. If you want in on the Blizzard Battles fun, head over to dentonmajik.com and grab a set.
The Setup
I had the soap loaded in a bowl I picked up from a shop that has since closed its doors. Small, shallow Italian piece. Great for just loading a brush. You can build lather in it too, but it’s especially handy when you don’t want to commit to a full bowl lather session.
The scoop is from Dave, otherwise known as Indie Shaver. He made these beautiful scoops and gave me one at the Maggards meetup. I had not had a chance to show it off in a video until now. I love it, especially for scooping Denton Majik. Thank you, Dave.

I’ve been going back and forth with bowl lathering lately. These days I keep coming back to it.
The razor is my titanium Blackland Osprey. It has been sitting here staring at me. I used to reach for it all the time, but I’ve been getting so many new razors that it just kind of got parked. Today felt like the right shave to bring it back. I had a couple days of growth. It was ready.
And the brush. This one is new to the den. I ordered a custom from Chisel and Hound when he opened his order banks. We went back and forth on ideas for a while. My requests were way out there. He talked me down off a ledge. But what he came back with is just incredible. I wanted his mortar shell design with a melted top, and I named it Atomic Meltdown. He nailed it. I set it up with a Frank Shaving untreated Manchurian silver tip knot. First use on that knot today. Already falling in love with it.
The lather came up beautiful.

Meetup Schedule
I figured while I was shaving I’d run through the schedule for the Texas Wet Shavers meetup, since the next video will probably be a recap.
Vendors, along with Doug and me, will be setting up from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The doors will be closed during setup. Don’t show up early expecting to get in. You’ll be standing outside.
Doors open at 10:00. Doug and I will do a welcome for about 10 to 15 minutes, then everyone is free to roam, meet the vendors, shop, and do the meet-and-greet thing. There will be a table at the entrance where you pick up your bag and your giveaway ticket. One ticket per participant, one bag. I only have 100 bags, and I’m anticipating around 80 people. If more show up, it’s first come, first served. Just know that going in.
Vendor floor runs from roughly 10:15 or 10:30 through noon. Then we break for lunch. I tried to arrange catering, but Kalahari had specific rules about outside food, and the fees to bring anything into the convention center were not reasonable. Their restaurants have normal prices though. It was just the in-house catering that was impossible. So, lunch break. Noon to 1:00.
Giveaways start at 1:00 p.m. We planned it that way for a couple of reasons. Some people can’t make it at the opening because of travel or family commitments, but they’ll be there by the afternoon. And we wanted people to have a reason to come back from lunch. I don’t know exactly how long the giveaways will run, but it will take a while. There’s a lot to get through.
Meetup wraps at 4:00. Vendors have from 4:00 to 5:00 to break down and move out. Then around 6:00 we’re planning an afterparty. There’s a sports bar on the other end of Kalahari with a bowling alley in it and good food. There’s also a really nice bar downstairs from the lobby with a giant tree in the middle of it. Either of those could end up being the spot. We’ll figure it out on the day.

After the Shave
That Osprey. I need to use it more. It’s one of my holy grail razors and it’s just been sitting there collecting dust while I chase new ones. I’m using it the rest of the week.
The Dominate splash is something else. I had never had my nose on Dominate before today. Now I need to find a bottle.
That’s Denton Majik Dominate. It’s available now, and don’t forget CryoMajik, the Blizzard Battles entry, is also available right now. Head over to dentonmajik.com and grab what you need. Hope to see you at the Texas Wet Shavers meetup. Find your peace in what and where you can.
