Privacy Policy

This page explains what information shavedad.com (“Shave Dad,” “we,” “us,” “our”) collects when you visit the site, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We’ve kept it short and concrete, there are only a few systems involved.

We are not lawyers. If you need a formal legal review, consult one. This page describes our actual practices in plain language.

1. What we collect

You do not need to create an account to browse Shave Dad. Most visitors never give us any personal information at all.

We collect information in four situations:

We do not collect: contact-form submissions, passwords (sign-in is handled by Auth0; your password or social credentials never touch our servers), payment information, location coordinates, biometric data, or government identifiers.

About the public leaderboard. The Shave Tracker publishes community rankings of razors, blades, and combinations. These are anonymous aggregates only: a combination appears only after multiple shaves from at least two different accounts, and nothing on the leaderboard identifies who logged what.

About names on the activity feed. The Shave Tracker also publishes a feed of recently logged shaves. A shave appears there with a display name only if that account has chosen to show one in the tracker’s Settings, and that name is limited to a first name and last initial (for example, John D.). Accounts created before this option existed are set to hidden and stay hidden unless their owner turns it on. You can turn it off at any time, which removes the name from the feed immediately. We never publish your email address, your full surname, or your notes.

2. How we use what we collect

We do not sell your email address. We do not run “data broker” exchanges. The newsletter is for our content only.

3. Who we share it with

shavedad.com is built on top of a small set of third-party services. Each one receives a specific slice of data:

We do not share data with anyone outside that list, except where required by law (a valid subpoena or court order).

4. Cookies and tracking

The site itself sets no first-party cookies. Pagefind (our on-site search) runs entirely in your browser and stores nothing. If you sign in to the Shave Tracker, your browser keeps an Auth0 session token in local storage so you stay signed in; it is used only to authenticate your own requests and is never used for tracking or advertising. It is removed when you sign out.

Third-party cookies are set by:

If you’re in the EU/UK and we add a Consent Management Platform in the future, you’ll see a banner on your first visit. Until then, consider your continued use of the site as ordinary acceptance under the cookie regime in force in your jurisdiction.

5. International transfers

Shave Dad is operated from the United States. Our hosting (Netlify), newsletter (Kit), and ad provider (Google) are all US-headquartered services with global infrastructure. If you visit from outside the US, including the EU/UK, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States. We rely on standard contractual mechanisms where applicable.

6. Data retention

7. Children

Shave Dad is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has subscribed to the newsletter, contact us at the address below and we will remove the record.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export the personal information we hold about you. Most relevant for this site:

9. Do-Not-Track

We do not currently change behavior based on the browser’s Do-Not-Track header, since AdSense’s policies do not honor it. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we are required to follow, this notice will be updated.

10. Changes to this policy

We update this notice when our practices change, for example, if we add a new analytics provider or a different newsletter platform. Material changes will be reflected in the Last updated date at the top of this page. There is no “before-and-after” archive; the version on this page is the current one.
