Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 4, 2026
This page explains what information shavedad.com (“Shave Dad,” “we,” “us,” “our”) collects when you visit the site, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We’ve kept it short and concrete, there are only a few systems involved.
We are not lawyers. If you need a formal legal review, consult one. This page describes our actual practices in plain language.
1. What we collect
You do not need to create an account to browse Shave Dad. Most visitors never give us any personal information at all.
We collect information in three situations:
- When you subscribe to the Shave Dad newsletter. We collect the email address and first name you enter into the signup form. That data is sent to our newsletter provider, Kit, and stored on Kit’s servers.
- When you submit any other form on the site. Any field you fill in, we receive. We currently have only the newsletter form.
- Automatically, while you browse. Our hosting and ad partners log standard request data: IP address, user agent (browser and OS), referring URL, requested page, timestamp. They use this for security, traffic analytics, and (in the case of ads) personalization.
We do not collect: contact-form submissions, account passwords, payment information, social-login profile data, location coordinates, biometric data, or government identifiers. The site does not have any of those features.
2. How we use what we collect
- Newsletter email + name, to send you the Shave Dad Newsletter (limited drops, reviews, gear). You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email; that removes you from Kit’s list immediately.
- Server logs, to keep the site online and fend off abuse. Aggregated traffic numbers help us decide what to write about.
- Ad-related data (see §4 below), Google AdSense uses cookies and your browsing context to choose which ads to show you. Ad revenue keeps the site free.
We do not sell your email address. We do not run “data broker” exchanges. The newsletter is for our content only.
3. Who we share it with
shavedad.com is built on top of a small set of third-party services. Each one receives a specific slice of data:
- Netlify, hosts the site. Receives the request logs described above (IP, user agent, request path).
- Kit, newsletter platform. Receives your email and first name when you subscribe, plus engagement data (whether you opened or clicked an email).
- Google AdSense, serves the ads on article pages. Sets cookies on your browser to show relevant ads and measure performance. AdSense may share data with its ad-network partners, listed in our
ads.txtfile (Google, AppNexus / Microsoft Xandr, Microsoft pubCenter). - Anchor / Spotify, the Spotify embed on
/podcast/and on individual episode pages may set cookies and receive data when you press play. We do not have access to that data. - YouTube, embedded video reviews load from youtube.com. YouTube sets cookies if you watch.
We do not share data with anyone outside that list, except where required by law (a valid subpoena or court order).
4. Cookies and tracking
The site itself sets no first-party cookies. Pagefind (our on-site search) runs entirely in your browser and stores nothing.
Third-party cookies are set by:
- Google AdSense, for ad personalization and frequency capping. You can opt out of personalized advertising at https://adssettings.google.com. Declining personalization does not stop ads from being shown; it only changes how they’re chosen.
- YouTube and Spotify, only when you press play on an embedded player.
If you’re in the EU/UK and we add a Consent Management Platform in the future, you’ll see a banner on your first visit. Until then, consider your continued use of the site as ordinary acceptance under the cookie regime in force in your jurisdiction.
5. International transfers
Shave Dad is operated from the United States. Our hosting (Netlify), newsletter (Kit), and ad provider (Google) are all US-headquartered services with global infrastructure. If you visit from outside the US, including the EU/UK, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States. We rely on standard contractual mechanisms where applicable.
6. Data retention
- Server logs, Netlify retains for ~30 days, then anonymizes or deletes. We do not export them.
- Newsletter subscribers, Kit retains your record until you unsubscribe. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email; the record is then removed.
- Aggregate analytics, anonymized counts may be kept indefinitely.
7. Children
Shave Dad is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has subscribed to the newsletter, contact us at the address below and we will remove the record.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export the personal information we hold about you. Most relevant for this site:
- Newsletter unsubscribe. Use the link in any email. Immediate.
- AdSense personalization opt-out. Use Google’s opt-out at https://adssettings.google.com. Or use a privacy-respecting ad-blocker.
- Right to be forgotten / GDPR / CCPA. Email us with the address below and we will remove any record we have. Since we do not run accounts, the only record we typically have is your newsletter subscription, which you can also remove yourself instantly via the unsubscribe link.
9. Do-Not-Track
We do not currently change behavior based on the browser’s Do-Not-Track header, since AdSense’s policies do not honor it. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we are required to follow, this notice will be updated.
10. Changes to this policy
We update this notice when our practices change, for example, if we add a new analytics provider or a different newsletter platform. Material changes will be reflected in the Last updated date at the top of this page. There is no “before-and-after” archive; the version on this page is the current one.
