I forgot to announce the Bermuda Triangle giveaway winner at the top of this video. So this is future me, recording separately, stepping in to fix that. We had 19 comments with the hashtag #bermudatriangle. CONUS only for this one because of the splashes, but still 19 entries. My usual random comment picker had gone dark, so I found a new one that uses a wheel. After some fiddling to get it running, we spun it. The winner is Rabbit Shaves. Damon, reach out. I believe I still have your address, but touch base, and we’ll get this shipped out to you.

All right. On to the video with past me.

Electro High Shine

Howdy, welcome back to A Texan Shaves. Got another product spotlight from Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements, and this one is brand new. I am very, very excited about it.

It’s called Electro High Shine.

You’ve seen the teasers. People were guessing all over the place. Is it a pomade? Something for the hair? I even played along a little on the Phoenix site, posting to ask if it was a bald head polish. Thought it’d be funny to keep the mystery going a bit longer. Nope. It’s a shave soap and splash. I’m assuming a full release, but I don’t have an exact drop date. Just know it’s coming very, very soon.

That label is beautiful. Really reflective holographic finish. There’s clearly lore and hidden details in there, and I haven’t had a chance to dig into all of it. Help me figure it out in the comments below.

Here’s how PAA introduces it:

Introducing Electro High Shine, our tribute to the legendary Chrome by Azzaro. One of the most recognizable fresh fragrances ever created and easily one of the most requested scents we’ve been asked to tackle over the years.

The scent profile:

Top: citrus, rosemary, bergamot, neroli, pineapple. Heart: jasmine, oakmoss, cyclamen, coriander. Base: musk, cedar, sandalwood, cardamom, Brazilian rosewood, and tonka bean.

On paper, bergamot and neroli up top with oakmoss in the heart reads clean and slightly green. Tonka bean and cedar at the base could go warm if it lands right. Going to be interesting to see how PAA weighted the notes.

The Chrome DNA

I don’t have the PAA EDP, so I’ve got Azzaro Chrome EDT here with me as a reference point. For the backstory, PAA writes:

Originally launched in ‘96, Chrome drew inspiration from the sun-drenched Mediterranean and the timeless bond between father and son. Clean, optimistic, and effortlessly wearable, it became a signature scent for an entire generation and remains a benchmark for fresh masculine fragrances to this day.

I agree with all of that. Almost everything in the ’90s was about nightlife. Chrome went a different direction, daytime, outdoors, optimistic, and it’s still moving. You don’t see that kind of staying power unless the juice is genuinely good.

I came to Chrome late. Just picked it up a few months ago and I’m completely in love with it. Wish I’d found it years earlier.

Here’s how PAA describes the build:

So, we set out on a mission to recreate the bright invigorating character that made the original unforgettable. The scent laboratory hummed with activity, instruments flickered, calculations were made, snacks were had, Cube made coffee, the usual. The result is Electro High Shine.

The Shave

For hardware today, I’ve got the glow-in-the-dark Moon Striker with a Snickel Synth knot. For the razor, I’m trying the RazoRock Smile Plus head and body shaver. It’s got a curved head on one side and a straight edge on the other. I’ll do a dedicated video on this one, but I’ve been having some genuinely incredible head shaves with it. Confidence has been through the roof

Today is a head shave. Did Blizzard Battles yesterday and didn’t have a lot of growth left. That’s fine. Good lather is good lather. I’ve also got my Tokyo Rose shirt on, because of course I do.

Loaded the brush. Then loaded it some more, because that is absolutely how I operate. Very generous with my soap. Scraped some excess out, got more water in, built up a solid lather. Oh, it smells so good. Such a bright, airy fragrance. Chrome just puts me in a good mood every single time, and Electro High Shine is doing exactly the same thing. I already need a cube of this in the den. And honestly? I’d buy it as a deodorant too if PAA makes one. That’s how good this scent profile is.

The shave itself went well, right up until it didn’t. I got comfortable. Too comfortable. Relaxed my pressure control and caught a nick right on top of the head. First one I’ve had with this razor. All me. Alum took care of it. Finished up clean. BBS.

During the shave, Electro High Shine was living up to the tribute. Starts out very bright, airy, slightly metallic. Not industrial metallic, just bright. Really light. What I love is the dry down. This one travels. Goes from those bright aromatics and coastal citrus to some beautiful woods in the base. Cannot get over how good this is.

Side by Side

For the splash, I did something I should have done at the beginning: sprayed a little Electro High Shine on the back of one hand and a little Azzaro Chrome EDT on the back of the other, right there next to each other.

Both beautiful. Very close. But honestly, and I say this as someone who genuinely loves Chrome, I think I like the PAA just a hair better so far. Winner either way.
