Bon Temps Barbershop: The Cajun Blade's Classic Barbershop Soap
Hi there. Welcome to Larry Shaves. A few days ago I got a big box from Chuck Shank of Chuck’s Shaving Channel, soaps, splashes, razors, all kinds of stuff. One of those items is what we’re using today: Bon Temps Barbershop from The Cajun Blade. That means good times in Cajun French, and it was the one item in Chuck’s box I already had the full set for.
The Products
Let me walk you through what we’re using today. We’ve got the Bon Temps Barbershop soap, the Aftershave Sauce splash, an Oliworks razor in blue with the number two plate (the medium), and the Simpson Trafalgar T3 brush. Great little brush.
I’m going to scoop out about this much soap and press it into the bowl. The key is to flatten it out as much as you can because that works up a better lather. I picked that trick up from a good friend, the Lathered Yeti. I talked to him at the Maggard Meetup and we had a great conversation about lathers. If you want to know how to make a good lather, he’s the guy to watch.
The Cajun Blade’s Story
Before I start shaving, let me tell you about The Cajun Blade. I had a chance to talk with Eric, the owner, at the Maggard Meetup. He built the business from a simple idea: create the shaving products he personally wanted to use every day. Founded in Southwest Louisiana in 2024 as a side project through eBay, The Cajun Blade grew from his passion for traditional wet shaving, straight razors, and handcrafted shaving products built without shortcuts. What started as a personal hobby quickly became a family-run business rooted in craftsmanship and community.
He’s no longer on eBay but has his own website now: thecajunbladestore.com. You should check it out.
How I Found This Soap
Here’s the thing, my wife found this one. We were both at Maggard Meetup, and I was on the left side of the Cajun Blade table checking out the Douche Voodoo. She was on the right side looking at Bon Temps, and she told me: “Larry, you got to get this.” She liked it so much she bought it for me.
I did a video on the Douche Voodoo recently, and it was really good. This one’s even better. I love this scent. It’s kind of an old-timey barbershop scent, and it’s really, really good.
The Shave

All right, I’m all lathered up. Today I’m using an RK blade, and this is the third use for it. I usually do two or three shaves per blade before I toss it. I’ve got so many blades from Chuck’s box that I’ll probably never have to buy another one. Blades are inexpensive anyway, just ten or fifteen cents each, so a guy could do one and done and never worry about it.
The first pass goes smooth. Some guys online say they get five shaves per blade. Maybe I could do that. But with so many blades on hand, I’m not in a hurry to push it.
Time to rewet the face and relather for the second pass.
Going east to west now, across the grain. I don’t need a third pass today. That’s great.

The Scent
Eric describes Bon Temps Barbershop as a true Southern barbershop fragrance, clean, masculine, and comforting without being dated. What started as a limited Mardi Gras release quickly became a permanent fixture in the Cajun Blade lineup.

The scent profile is bright citrus opening to warm spice and aromatic herbs, resting on a smooth woody base. It strikes a balance between fresh and warm, old school and refined. It brings to mind straight razor shaves, hot towels, and the unmistakable scent of a real barbershop, the kind that leaves a memory behind. It’s powdery and fresh, layered with just enough depth to keep it grounded. That’s a tremendous barbershop scent right there.
Why Barbershop Shaving Matters
Growing up in Indiana, I never found a barbershop that actually did shaving. You see it in movies, the westerns, where guys would go in for a haircut and a shave. But I never saw that in my town. Not until I moved to Virginia.
There was a barber next to where I was getting my haircut, and he’d do shaving. I’d watch him and always wanted to try it. But before I got the chance, he had some health issues and had to retire.
I don’t know of any barbershops in our area that still do shaving. But that’s all right because I like to shave myself. It started out years ago as a chore, “oh man, I got to shave today”, but it’s quickly become a joy. Every morning, I get up, take a nice shower, and then I have a great shave. That’s the order that works for me.
If you’re using cartridge razors or electric razors, do yourself a favor: try a double edge safety razor or a single edge like the Leaf Twig. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it the way I enjoy getting up in the morning for my shave.
My wife got the smaller tin at the meetup, and I’m ordering the larger size. I’ll keep this one for traveling.
The Aftershave
Now let’s apply the aftershave. We’ve got Aftershave Sauce from The Cajun Blade.
Oh man. That scent, that classic old-style barbershop scent, is terrific. We’ve been shaving today with The Cajun Blade’s Bon Temps Barbershop, and it’s excellent. If you’d like to check it out, go to thecajunbladestore.com.
Thank you for joining me today for our shave. I hope it’s been meaningful to you. I’ve had a good time, and I’m thankful you came along. We’ll be back soon with another shave. In the meantime, subscribe to the channel, it really helps. Until we get together again here in The Shave Den, happy shaving.
