Naked Armor Priamus Razor Review: Cajun Blade Tropical Coconut Lime
We’re shaving with the Priamus safety razor from Naked Armor. Hi everybody, it’s Glenn, welcome to the Luxury Shaving Hobbyist. We’re using it with The Cajun Blade’s Wid’s Tropical Coconut Lime, and a brand new brush from Chisel and Hound. First, I want to thank the folks at Naked Armor for sending this razor to me. Really appreciate it.
Unboxing the Priamus
Let’s open the box. Here’s the razor, packed with some Voskhod blades. Take a look at this thing. It’s a DE safety razor with a resin handle, and it has a beautiful weight to it. Beautiful wood grain look too, with the Naked Armor name right in the middle. The top cap and plate look like an aluminum alloy, and the rest is a zinc alloy. Very weighty, feels like quality.
Let me compare it to a razor I already have, a little travel razor from Shave Co with a Muhle R89 head, pretty standard. Put that head next to the Priamus and they look almost the same, but not quite. You’ll see a difference in the blade gap between the Muhle R89 and the one on this Naked Armor razor.
We’re loading a Voskhod blade on its third and final use into the new razor. There’s a little blade overhang, but it fits beautifully. We’re ready to go.
The Cajun Blade x Wid’s Tropical Coconut Lime
If you’ve watched my channel before, you know the story behind my collabs with Wid’s Soaps. This one was Rick’s idea for our second collab, and I thought it was too good to pass up. That’s from Eric at The Cajun Blade. Look at this label. Beautiful, beautiful label, I just love it. Here’s the side label with The Cajun Blade and Wid’s trademarks on it. This is a tallow base soap, full medium scent strength off the container.
It’s not the sweet lime and coconut scent you might expect. Very masculine, almost rugged, barbershop vibe. Beautiful scent. This is in The Cajun Blade’s new base.
Here’s the aftershave. When you first get it, it separates, so give it a real good shake. Let’s do that, and here’s what it looks like all mixed. Get some on the back of your hand. The aftershave is a bit brighter than the soap, but not sweet. Masculine and rugged, same as the puck.
The brush from Chisel and Hound
Brush for this shave is from Chisel and Hound, first time use, already washed. There’s the puppy on the bottom. I love the fluting work on this brush, just beautiful, and what a great match to the soap label, in my opinion. Can’t wait to use this. Is this a thing of beauty or what?
Building the lather
I’ve got five days of growth, so let’s see how well the Priamus does. We’re using some Bayou Butter from The Cajun Blade as a pre-shave. This is The Cajun Blade’s new base, and I’ve already run a couple of his soaps through it, it’s wonderful. This is a 26mm Fanchurian knot, great backbone, very soft tips, feels wonderful. Such a pleasing scent too, kind of a creaminess I get out of it. Freshness, creaminess, ruggedness all at once.
The shave
Okay, we’re ready to go. The razor works. There’s no real knurling on the handle, but it’s not slippery. Nice audio feedback. I’d say it’s not mild. It’s efficient, and I think it sits somewhere between an R89 and a Muhle R41. Medium aggressive, so far. Very nice, pass number one.
More water on the face, lather up for pass two. So far so good, no complaints about anything in this shave. Tropical and masculine at the same time.
A quick word on value. Looking at Naked Armor’s product page, the list price on this razor is a bit high; keep an eye out for sales to make sure you get an okay value here. Is it the best out there? No. But it’s certainly okay for what it is, and it’s performing beautifully. Looks beautiful too.
Lather up for pass three, and I’ll speed that part up for you. Going to call this done. A very, very good shave. The razor, in my opinion, isn’t for a first-time DE user. It’s aggressive, medium-aggressive, but it is aggressive, and a first-timer might need something a little milder. For me, though, I loved it. Just loved it.
Not wasting a drop
If you’ve watched my channel before, you know we don’t waste any of that delicious Cajun Blade lather left in the brush or the bowl. Get it up on the face one more time. I do this for a couple of reasons. One, you get to enjoy that luscious scent even longer, and this is a luscious scent. Two, it’s good for your face. Three, if you missed any spots, this is where you catch them. Absolutely nothing missed here. Let’s rinse. Five days of growth, gone in a flash.
Give the aftershave a good shake, it starts separating again. Oh boy. Oh boy. Oh boy. The Cajun Blade does not disappoint. Neither does Wid’s. Scent is gorgeous, face feel is beautiful, really smooth from that Naked Armor razor. Plenty of skin food in this aftershave too.
