Kai Captain Sharp vs. Feather and Schick: The Group Weighs In on AC Blades

Dan posted a straightforward question to the group: has anyone run the Kai Captain Sharp blade long enough to know if it holds up. He was getting about two shaves per blade, worse than his Feather DE blades, and wanted a gut check before buying more.

Stubble jumped in first with a number that reframed the whole question. AC-style blades, in general, outlast DE blades for him. Seven to ten shaves on an AC blade versus three to four on a DE blade. That’s not a small gap. It means the real question isn’t whether the Captain Sharp is good, it’s whether it’s good compared to the other AC blades people are already running.
The group’s pick
Dan pushed for a ranking. Combine efficiency, sharpness, and longevity into one score, he asked, which blade wins.
That’s Stubble’s answer, and nobody in the thread pushed back on it. Bary backed the same shortlist from his own rotation, naming the Schick P-30 and the Feather Super Professional as his two go-to AC blades. Dan took the hint and said he was leaning toward the P-30 for his next order.
Where the Feather confusion comes from
Here’s the part of the thread that’s actually useful if you’ve ever stood in front of a blade display wondering what the difference is between a “Feather Professional” and a “Feather Super Professional.” Bary laid it out plainly.
Dan, who’s run both, added that the Super Pro’s extra thickness translates to less chatter during the shave. Small difference on paper, noticeable difference on the face.
Other AC blades worth knowing about
The thread didn’t stop at Feather and Schick. Lee asked around about the Kai lineup specifically and got a useful split. Chris said he hasn’t used the Captain Sharp itself, but the little brother, the Captain Mild, works almost perfectly for him in a Feather shavette, enough that he never bothered picking up the Sharp. Lee took that as a recommendation, bought the Mild, and came back to confirm it delivered.
Chris separately named his own favorites: the Kai Captain Original, the P-30, and the Kai Captain Titan Mild Pink for lighter shaves. Dan clarified a distinction that matters here. The Kai Captain Originals aren’t the same blade as the Captain Sharp. His read is that the Originals perform closer to the Feather Pros, while the Sharp lines up more with the Feather Super Pros.
Drew offered a different angle entirely: his go-to AC blade isn’t a major brand at all. He pointed to Eric Hebert’s Cajun Blade, saying it comes close enough to the big names that he couldn’t tell the difference in a blind test.

Where this leaves the Captain Sharp
Nobody in the thread settled whether the Captain Sharp’s supply is reliable long-term, and that’s the kind of thing that changes without warning anyway. If you’ve got a line on current stock, that’s exactly the kind of thing worth posting in the group.
What the thread did settle, more or less, is the pecking order among the blades people actually have on hand. The Schick P-30 came out on top for smoothness, the Feather lineup is close behind once you know which Feather you’re actually buying, and the Kai Captain Mild has a quiet fan base among shavette users who never felt the need to chase the sharper version.
Smooth shaves out there.
