If you could keep only one citrus scented soap in your den, which one would it be? Say that five times fast. All right guys, this is a pre-shave of the day. Sticking to one thing last week made me really gung ho about picking my stuff out ahead of time, so here’s the lineup.

The Shave Plan

I’m using the Goodfellas Smile Orange Empire soap with the GDMG Hellfire brush, the RazoRock The GOAT on the regular plate, and to top it off, Stirling Orange Chill splash. It’s mentholated, and this smells really, really orangey.

Goodfellas Smile Orange Empire

I’ve been searching up and down for an orange scented soap. My friend Craig sent me this one, and it’s fantastic. About a year and a half ago I was talking with John over at Enchanted Path, telling him I was looking for an orange soap. Every time I found something that was supposed to be orange, it showed up smelling like grapefruit, and I’m not a grapefruit person.

John said they had an Italian Citrus I should try. I bought a tub. When it got here and I opened it up and smelled it, I thought, no, this is too much grapefruit for me too. But then I used it, and that orange scent came out. It’s one of my favorite soaps. If you’re going to buy anything from Enchanted Path Creations, give the Italian Citrus a try if you like a citrusy scent. It’s really good. Thank you, John.

I’ve only used the Orange Empire once so far, but I really like it. Thank you, Craig. Much appreciated, my brother.

GDMG Hellfire Brush

Next up is the GDMG Hellfire, which I call the Van Halen. They sent this to me for a review, but this isn’t a review, so don’t go thinking this is a paid promotion. I really love this handle.

I had them set a black boar knot in it, and unfortunately, when I was using it about a week ago and squeezed the water out, the knot popped right out. Not enough adhesive when they set it. I messaged Emily and told her the knot came out, and that I wasn’t complaining. I can reset a knot myself, no problem, but she should probably let whoever sets the knots know it happened. She wrote back embarrassed, because she’d set that one herself. I told her not to worry about it.

The boar knot wasn’t softening up the way I wanted anyway, so instead of resetting it I switched to a Maggard synthetic knot. This is so good. So good. It’s very similar to the PAA Atomic Rocket knot. If you know that one, this is close to it, maybe a Plissoft. I’m honestly not sure which one it is, but it’s in that family. Love this knot.

RazoRock The GOAT

The razor is the RazoRock The GOAT, and I’m on the standard plate. I do have the plus plate too, but I’m sticking with standard for this one. This was one of my bucket list razors, and Barry gifted it to me for my birthday. Thank you, Barry.

Stirling Orange Chill

To finish it off, I’m following the soap with Stirling Orange Chill splash. I don’t mess with menthol much, but I figured I’d give this one a try. Barry’s got his menthol battles going, so I wanted in on a little of that.

Believe it or not, this is pretty cold for me. Probably nothing to Barry, but it’s got menthol in it. What surprised me is that it still smells like orange. I figured the menthol would override a scent like that, and it didn’t.

One Soap, Which One

So, back to the question. If I had to keep only one citrus scented soap, it wouldn’t be the Orange Empire. That one’s really good, but the one I’d keep is the Enchanted Path Italian Citrus. I like them both enough that if one of them disappeared, I’d be fine with the other. But if you’re pinning me down to one, that’s the one.

All right guys, that’s it for this one. Call this one a pre-shave. Stay smooth.
