Saponificio Varesino 80th Anniversary: Ben's Rotation Pick

Some soaps get called favorites because members run out of things to compare them to. Saponificio Varesino’s 80th Anniversary is the one Ben keeps reaching for, and his post is specific about why.

SV 80th Anniversary

The scent profile is the lead story. Notes run bergamot up top, with the base built around ambergris, cedar, myrrh, and vanilla. On paper, expect the bergamot to read lighter against something warmer and darker at the base. That combination leans complex, not a one-note scent.

Performance is the other part of Ben’s case. He calls it “super slick,” says the hydration is “phenomenal,” and frames the whole soap as a beast. This is a community that has heard every performance claim going. When someone who has clearly used a few keeps returning to the same one, it registers.

The 70th Anniversary is a different scent entirely. If you’ve only tried one of the SV anniversary series, there’s another lane worth exploring.

One Razor, One Month

Ben has downsized to six razors total and spent the last month with the Rex Ambassador exclusively, dialed between 2 and 3. His skin is responding.

Constant rotation has a cost that’s easy to miss while it’s happening. Every new razor head means re-learning angle and pressure, a recalibration period that shows up on your skin before you connect the cause. Staying on one razor long enough to stop adjusting is what most shavers skip, because the hardware is interesting and the switching feels free.

Settings 2 to 3 on the Ambassador puts it on the milder side. It handles the job without demanding precision. Ben’s been at it long enough to know when something is working, and a month of consistent results on one head is the kind of evidence that holds.

Happy shaving.
