What's Happening in Shave Dad, Week of May 15

May 16, 2026 · Shave Dad
Shave Dad x Razor Emporium Back to Glory collaboration label art featuring a vintage Gillette Red Tip razor

Three giveaways ran in the group this week, the YouTube channel directory thread turned into one of the better resource posts around, and Jerry dropped a first look at a collab with Razor Emporium that’s going to get some attention when it drops. Lot happening for one week. Here’s what you missed.

Back to Glory: Shave Dad x Razor Emporium

Jerry posted a preview of a collaboration in the works with Razor Emporium: a shave soap called Back to Glory. This is an announcement, not a launch. No release date in the thread.

The concept is built around the vintage Gillette Red Tip. The Red Tip is a nickel-plated Gillette Super Speed variant from the late 1950s, named for the red-colored tip at the bottom of the handle, which set it apart from the other color-coded Super Speed variants. Blue Tip was mild. Red Tip was the aggressive one, the razor coarse-beard guys reached for when the gentler versions left them wanting more. Razor Emporium has built their name on vintage safety razor restoration and sales. The label art is built around a real Red Tip from their collection, which is a fitting anchor for them.

Scent direction: bergamot, lavender, cedarwood, amber. On paper that reads clean and masculine. Bergamot up top, lavender as a softener, then cedarwood and amber pulling it toward warm and resinous in the base. Whether it leans barbershop or goes more outdoorsy depends on how the cedarwood sits relative to the lavender. How it actually develops is anyone’s guess until it ships.

Watch the group for the launch announcement.

The YouTube Directory

Jerry posted a call for members with shaving YouTube channels to drop their links in the comments. The thread drew 198 comments.

It’s a useful thread. General search results for wet-shaving video content tend to surface product demos and beginner breakdowns aimed at people who just picked up a DE razor. The group thread catches the shavers making content for people who already know the basics, the ones breaking down why they get the results they do. Worth scrolling through if you’re looking for channels to follow. If you run one and haven’t dropped your link yet, it’s not too late.

Salve & Oak Co. Giveaway: Northwood Shave Soap

DJ is building Salve & Oak Co. from the ground up, and Jerry gave him a feature post and a giveaway slot to help spread the word. The prize: Northwood, one of Salve & Oak Co.’s shave soaps.

Scent notes as listed: bay leaf, fir, cedarwood, bergamot, tobacco leaf. The copy leans into a northern-forest theme. Bay leaf and fir up top, bergamot adding some brightness, then cedarwood through the middle and tobacco leaf at the base. On paper that combination could land dry and woody if it goes the right direction. The tobacco leaf base is the interesting part of the note list.

Entry required commenting “Wishing you the best.” The thread hit 158 comments and 126 reactions. The full lineup is at salveandoakco.com if you want to see what else is in the catalog.

Marshall Made Woodshop: Custom Razor and Wholly Kaw Belgravia

Alex over at Marshall Made Woodshop gave away a custom resin safety razor paired with a puck of Wholly Kaw Belgravia (used once). CONUS only.

The giveaway pulled 112 reactions and 137 comments, but the more notable part is how Alex runs his business. For every purchase through his Etsy store or any custom order, he builds a shaving brush to be gifted to an active service member or veteran, with a personal note from the customer. It also includes the Wholly Kaw Belgravia in the lot is a bonus from a well-regarded artisan, and showing up pre-used means someone found it worth using.

If you’re looking for a handmade razor handle or a custom brush, marshallmadewoodshop.etsy.com is where to start.

Wayne’s Razor Giveaway: Hensen Mild, Merkur 23C, Merkur 39C

Wayne put three razors up for giveaway to pass them to a good home: a Hensen Mild, a Merkur 23C, and a Merkur 39C. All in great condition. CONUS only, entry by commenting “I’m in.” The thread got 94 comments.

That’s a solid set for someone getting into DE shaving, or a chance to add a Hensen to the rotation without paying retail. The 23C is a reliable long-handle mild razor with plenty of documentation behind it. The 39C slant is a different experience from most DE razors, worth trying if you’ve never shaved with a slant head. The Hensen Mild uses a fixed blade gap aimed at consistent results regardless of how you load the blade. Getting all three in one lot is not something you see often. Good luck to whoever won it.
