Blackland Vector vs Blackbird: The Group Picks Sides
Chris put a simple question to the group: Blackland Vector or Blackbird. Nineteen comments came back, and nobody settled it. The split ran close to even, and the reasons people gave for landing on either side are worth more than the tally.
The Vector Case
Jeff runs the original plate over the Lite and doesn’t hedge about why.
Ronnie kept it short: the Vector is really great. Kal narrowed things down by metal, saying he runs his Vector in titanium and keeps the Blackbird in stainless or titanium depending on what he’s in the mood for.
The Blackbird Camp
Michael called the Blackbird one of his favorite razors. No qualifiers. Brian’s been running the Ti version with both plates for a while and has a routine dialed in.
Rune’s experience cuts against the idea that Lite is just the easy setting. He found the Blackland Blackbird has a real learning curve on the standard plate, aggressive enough that it took getting used to. He tried the Lite plate too and found it too mild for his taste. It didn’t stick around.
Guys Who Own Both
Ron went through both sides of the same razor before landing somewhere in the middle. The standard plate was too aggressive for him to get comfortable with. He swapped to the Lite plate, and that one became the top razor in his den, at least until a Nord Freyja took the spot.
Juan’s Blackbird runs the Lite plate, and he still calls it very efficient with real blade feel. Leonard owns both plates for his Blackbird but reaches for the standard one most days.
Mark owns both the Vector and the Blackbird, and he’s not picking a favorite. Both, he says, are beautifully made and give great shaves. Neither is a mild razor. Both carry noticeable blade feel no matter which plate you’re on.
If You Want a Cheaper Way In
Leonard said he’d love to try a Vector. Kal’s answer: get a Shield razor instead. Similar shave, he said, for about a third of the price. Worth knowing if the adjustable open-comb idea appeals to you but the Vector’s price tag doesn’t.
Where That Leaves It
No consensus, and honestly, that’s the useful part. The original Blackbird plate and the original Vector plate both draw the same complaint: aggressive, not for a first razor. The Lite plate on either one is where people who want the geometry without the bite tend to land, though Rune’s experience shows even that isn’t universal.
