Elysian Icing: Shield Titan Elite Defender and Grizzly Bay Brush Review

Hi everybody, it’s Glenn. Welcome to the Luxury Shaving Hobbyist, the most relaxing wet shaving channel on YouTube. Great shave today. Elysian Icing, soap and splash. A brand new razor from Shield. And a beautiful new brush from Grizzly Bay. Let’s get into it.

Elysian Icing

Shannon at Elysian Soap Shop made this one. Inspired by a decadent slice of iced lemon cake and the dog days of summer. The shaving set delivers a sweet gourmand fragrance that melts into a mentholated freeze.

The notes:

The scent opens with a zest punch of organic lemon essential oil softened by creamy vanilla bean and delicate florals. Just as the taste of deliciousness settles, a refreshing wave of peppermint, eucalyptus, and crisp menthol takes over, leaving your skin feeling intensely revived. The entire experience is rounded out by a clean cedar wood base.

That color in the soap? Vanilla. Open it up and scent strength off the container is high. The freshness from that lemon is fantastic. I can feel the menthol on the back of my hand from the splash before the shave even starts.

It’s a tallow-based soap, and Shannon has built a wonderful base here. She’ll be at the meetup too, so you can come meet her and check out her products in person.

Shield Titan Elite Series Defender

Here is the Shield Titan Elite Series Defender double-edge razor. Grade five titanium. Just take a look at the work in this razor. Beautiful top cap, a clean plate with no writing on it whatsoever, and a handle with no markings either. No writing anywhere. You know it’s a Shield.

It comes with a stand. Beautiful fit. I’m loading it with an Astra blade on its third and final use today.

The Grizzly Bay Brush

This matte white brush is from John at Grizzly Bay. Gorgeous design. It’s got a 26mm Fenturion knot and a brand new coin on the bottom. This one is in gold. John also made one with a silver coin, and he was kind enough to donate that brush to our meetup. Maybe you’ll win it if you attend. Thank you, John, for that donation.

The Shave

Pre-shave is Tube 2.0 from Phoenix. I’ve got four days of growth today.

Loading up the brush, I get that lemon and vanilla and eucalyptus. Wonderful scent. Onto the face, very refreshing. The lemon jumps right out at you. I’m starting to feel the coolness before the first pass is even done.

Shield feels so good in the hand. Four days of growth, gone in a snap. Very efficient. Very comfortable. I’m smelling the eucalyptus during the pass. Trying to pick out the florals. Can’t quite do it yet. Getting the smoothness of the vanilla, though. Beautiful soap, beautiful razor.

Pass two. Great audio feedback from the razor. Really liking this razor.

Pass three, I’ll speed it up as usual. Calling this done. Beautiful shave. Very comfortable, very efficient. My face is nice and cool right now from the eucalyptus. Wonderful.

One thing I always do at the end: don’t waste the lather that’s left in the brush or the bowl. Get it back on the face one more time. Three reasons. One, you get to enjoy the scent a little longer, and with Icing, the scent is magnificent and so cool. Two, it’s good for your face. Three, if you missed any spots, you’ll find them and fix them right now. Nothing missed today.

Cold water rinse. After that last cold rinse, the coolness just jumped right out. Very, very nice.

Straight to the splash. The amount of menthol and eucalyptus in here isn’t terribly high. My eyes aren’t tearing at first. Apply it, though, and the coolness amps right up. It did make my eyes tear a little bit, but not at all terrible. Wonderful. Mostly lemon right now, eucalyptus and vanilla. A little woodiness. Trying to find the florals. Yeah. Getting them now. Just fantastic.
