They warned you not to open the door. HAGS Artisan’s Halloween limited edition is back for a second year, and Rick Or Treat II goes live today, October 23, at 11:00 AM Pacific at The Wet Shaving Store. There are three pieces: a shaving soap in HAGS’ MR. RICK base, an alcohol-based aftershave lotion and a moisturizing balm, all in the same scent.

The Scent

Last year’s Rick Or Treat was all candy bag: candied orange, cookie crumble and golden amber. The sequel goes darker. HAGS built an original gourmand around juicy fruit against velvety warmth. Black cherry, almond and a juicy-fruit accord open it sweet and dark. A soft heart of cashmere, florals and warm woods follows. The drydown is two vanillas over musk, amber and a shadow of patchouli. Sweet first, deeper the longer it wears.

Top: Black Cherry, Almond, Juicy Fruit Accord Heart: Cashmere, Soft Florals, Warm Woods Base: Sugar Vanilla, Creamy Vanilla, Soft Musk, Woody Amber, Patchouli

If you like your fall soaps on the dessert side, this is the one to grab this season.

Rick Or Treat II Shaving Soap

The soap comes in MR. RICK, the limited-edition base that, in HAGS’ telling, rose from the dead on Halloween 2023. It is hot-processed, so the extra virgin olive oil, tamanu oil and maracuja (passion fruit) oil stay unsaponified and work on your skin during the shave. Vegetable activated charcoal rounds it out. There are no animal fats.

MR. RICK is a soft croap, so skip the bloom. Swirl a damp brush on the surface for about 10 seconds and build your lather in a bowl or on your face, adding water as you go. More water gives you a denser, creamier lather. The scent meter on the jar bottom shows strength once lathered, not straight from the jar.

Rick Or Treat II Aftershave Lotion

The splash is the alcohol-based version, on HAGS’ Tesseract (4,3,4) formula. The alcohol gives it a crisp, quick-drying finish. Witch hazel, cucumber, calendula, aloe, chamomile and rose waters, plus glycerin, allantoin and sodium hyaluronate, keep your skin comfortable after it dries. Shake it, put 5 to 7 drops in your palm and press it onto freshly shaved skin.

Rick Or Treat II Moisturizing Balm

If you want moisture rather than a bite, this is the pick. It is HAGS’ Aegis 6.1.2 balm, a light, silky formula that absorbs quickly without feeling greasy. Botanical waters calm the skin, panthenol and allantoin help it recover, and squalane, argan oil, shea and mango butter hold in moisture. It has no parabens or drying alcohols, so it is a good fit for dry or sensitive skin.
