Adopted Acres Lime on the Line soap with Henson AL13 razor and Personna GEM blade

Hi there. Welcome to Larry Shaves. Today we’re shaving with Lime on the Line from Adopted Acres Soap Company. Excellent soap. Excellent. Nice bright scent to it - lime, spearmint, and peppermint. And we’re going to pair it with the Adopted Acres Lime on the Line aftershave splash to round out the shave. Going to be a great one today. Getting excited about it.

Lime on the Line

Lime on the Line is a true essential oil shave soap. No fragrance oils, no fillers. Just lime, spearmint, and peppermint essential oils built on Adopted Acres’ tallow-based formula.

They describe it as their answer to requests for a true essential oil soap. The scent is crisp, refreshing, and purposefully simple - a bright lime opening followed by cool minty clarity. Whether you’re lining up a beard, shaving a clean cheek, or running steel down a straight razor pass, the blend feels right at home. Playful in name, serious in performance - that’s their pitch, and they’re not overselling it.

The Brush and Hardware

Our brush today is the Yaqi with a 24mm knot. Love this brush. It’s a great lather maker.

For the razor we have the Henson AL13, and I’ve got a Personna GEM double-edge blade loaded in - Platinum Diamond Glide Coating, premium surgical Japanese stainless steel. I’d been hearing a lot about this blade online and folks kept asking me if I’d tried it yet. So I ordered some. Got one loaded in the Henson. Today we find out.

Building the Lather

Scoop out a little soap from the jar - about that much as usual - take it off the thumb, put it in the bowl, and spread it down as thin as you can get it. That’s how you work up a great lather. May need just a little more water. Rinsed the bowl and probably took too much out.

Boy, this is whipping up great. Really great lather. Ain’t that great? Lime on the Line. Ready to go.

The Shave

Applied the lather to the face - oh. That is cool. Peppermint, spearmint. Really nice on the face. This is a perfect soap for hot-weather shaves - that cooling sensation from the peppermint and spearmint is just right.

First pass with the Personna GEM on the Henson AL13. So far so good. Well, that is cutting right through the hair. Very smooth. Good residual slickness from Lime on the Line too. I only had a day’s worth of growth and it was taking it down nicely. I’m paying a little more attention than usual with this blade - you can tell it is sharp.

You can tell from the minute it starts working - this blade is sharp. Premium surgical Japanese stainless steel with a rigorous grinding and honing process. You don’t get this kind of edge every day. I’m impressed.

Now, a note: really sharp blades work better for me in mild razors. You really want to know what you’re doing if you put a sharp blade in a more aggressive razor. The AL13 is mild, and with the Personna GEM, that’s a great pairing.

I trust your day is going well. Mine’s just getting a good start. Start out with a good shave and it kind of makes the whole day go well.

Second pass, cross grain. And then with the residual slickness still on from the soap, I ran south to north for a light third pass without re-lathering. You can do that as long as the soap holds the slickness. Lime on the Line had plenty of it. Rich, creamy lather with excellent cushion and glide. Rinses clean, leaves a smooth post-shave feel.

Honestly, I may not have even needed the second pass. The first pass did most of the work. But the soap made it easy to keep going. Wonderful combination: Henson AL13, Personna GEM, and Lime on the Line. Really really good.

The Aftershave

Rinsed off, dried up, and we’re going for the Adopted Acres Lime on the Line aftershave splash.

It comes with a spray cap right out of the box, and they include a pour cap too if you prefer. I really like the spray. Two or three squirts and that citrus comes right to life. Love that lime on the line.

Here’s how I got this soap. My wife and I went to the Maggard Meetup together. While I was over on one end of the Adopted Acres table looking at soaps, she walked to the other end, took the lid off a jar, smelled it, and came back and said, “You’ve got to get this.” So she bought it for me. Lime on the Line. I’m really glad she did. Doug and Caroline make this with their children, and this is a great soap that I think you’ll really enjoy.

Thank you for joining me today here in the shave den. I hope you’ll be back very soon for our next shave. And if you haven’t subscribed to the channel yet, please do - it helps the channel and we’d really appreciate it. Until next time, happy shaving.
