Subtle Art Soap Co. Whispering Woods: Sandalwood Set on the New V4B Base
Joe at Subtle Art Soap Co. is releasing Whispering Woods as a full three-piece set: shaving soap, aftershave splash, and an eau de parfum. The soap runs on the brand’s V4B (Vegan Four Butter) base, the newer formula Subtle Art has been rolling its lineup onto, which adds Shorea butter and aloe to the prior recipe.
The Scent
Whispering Woods sits in the warm sandalwood lane, with vetiver, amber, vanilla, and white musk underneath. Subtle Art’s own opening for the scent reads like the inside of a forest after dark:
Leaves lean in to listen, a soft rustling threading the trunks. The wind slips through the woods like a cautious voice, low and intimate, tracing the ridges of bark and the pale undersides of leaves. Branches answer in slow cadences; needles and leaflets trade small, frequent secrets.

That is a classic woodsy-oriental shape: bright sandalwood as the lead voice, vetiver and amber giving the dry-down its grounding, vanilla and white musk softening the finish. It reads year-round, but the sandalwood-amber backbone leans into cooler-weather rotation as easily as into a warm-evening shave.
The Shave Soap
The Whispering Woods soap uses the V4B (Vegan Four Butter) base that Subtle Art has been rolling out across its lineup. Joe’s description of the base, verbatim:
Our new V4B (Vegan Four Butter) soap base produces the same luxurious, super slick, ultra creamy, “yogurt like” lather you’ve come to expect from our shave soaps. The addition of Shorea butter, and aloe brings a new level of protection and skin conditioning to your shave. Marshmallow Root soothes redness and irritation, relieves inflammation, and helps retain moisture.

The Aftershave
An alcohol-based splash with witch hazel, grapeseed oil, and vitamin E behind the fragrance. Shake before use. The label note: it ships within CONUS only because of the alcohol content, which is standard for traditional splashes from U.S. artisans. Price: $22.
The Eau de Parfum
The EDP rounds the set out for shavers who want to carry the Whispering Woods scent past the shave. Same note list as the soap and splash, concentrated for a fragrance-strength wear. Price: $42.
The Full Picture
What you get with Whispering Woods is a three-piece scent vertical built around a single sandalwood-led composition: a soap that builds the lather, a splash that anchors the post-shave, and a fragrance that holds the scent into the evening. The set works as a coordinated rotation slot if you keep all three, or as a soap-only addition if the scent shape fits a gap you already have.
The V4B base is the other story here. Subtle Art has been moving its lineup onto V4B (Draconis Luna, Draconis Noctem, Emerald Fields, and Eucalyptus & Mint are all on the new base, with the menthol Draconis Glacialis returning on V4B on 6/18), and Whispering Woods drops into that same formula. The Shorea butter and aloe additions read as protection-and-comfort upgrades on top of the brand’s already well-regarded slick-lather formula.
