One Week Shave Challenge, Day 5: The Little Details That Make a Razor
This shave’s about the little details. The weight distribution of the razor. The grip on the handle. Audible feedback. How easy it rinses off. The overall feel on my face.
The Red Tip, Five Days In
I’m using the Red Tip. Vintage razor. Most of you already know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s well balanced, and the grip is really good, it’s not slipping out of your hands even with soap all over them. The audible feedback is nice too. You get a good sound when it’s actually cutting through the stubble.
This is one razor I’d tell anybody to keep in their den. It’s that good.
Funny thing about a razor like this: you don’t notice the details until the novelty wears off. I’ve run this thing a hundred times before, but I never sat down and did a daily shave with it for this long. This is day five. Five days straight with the same setup, and I’m picking out little things I never noticed before. It’s becoming a daily driver for me, and I like it a lot.
Blades I’ve Run Through It
I’m looking forward to trying a few more blades in it, though honestly I’ve already run plenty through this razor before. Feathers, Kais, Filosos, Voskhods. This Polsilver has been a good one, might be my favorite in the Red Tip so far. Gillette Silver Blues are solid too. Makes sense, it’s a Gillette razor and a Gillette blade, they’re made for each other. Filosos have always done right by me in this one as well.
Five Days In, Two More to Go
I was going back and forth on whether to call it here. Do I stop at a full workweek, or push all the way to seven days? I made it this far. I’m going the full seven.
I was looking forward to switching to a different soap, brush, and razor, but I can go two more days. There’s also a small wrinkle in how I’ve been running this challenge that I’ll level with you about once the week’s done. I don’t think it counts as cheating, but you can be the judge of that.
Another great shave. Look at this, no bumps. My skin’s clearing up. That’s what happens when you stick with the same setup instead of jumping around gear every few days. Nobody’s shaving perfectly every single day if they keep switching things up. It just doesn’t happen.
Thanks for hanging out, guys. Stay smooth.
Oh, and I forgot to ask, what’s one tiny detail that makes you love a razor? Drop it in the comments.
